If you have a good news story that showcases the lifestyle of this region or the culture or events in your community, then the Border Café online news and lifestyle magazine wants to hear from you.
Kylie King, Border Cafe founder and editor.
Founder and editor, Kylie King will be well-known to many having been the sports presenter for Prime TV in Albury in the mid-1990s. After local TV, her career in motorsports journalism has taken her all over Australia.
“While I am still based here, when I am away I find I am always telling people about the fabulous things to see and do in this region. This made me realise there was an opportunity for a good news and tourism digital publication,” Kylie said.
“The negativity of hard news locally and globally can weigh people down. I see the Border Café as a tool to give people back a sense of pride in this area, unearthing stories that traditional news outlets may not always have the time and resources to run. And I want people to feel proud to share their stories on the site.”
Early indications are that people in the region are very willing to do so and are enjoying the upbeat focus.
Visitor numbers continue to increase, with 73% being female and nearly 50% of the readership under 44 years of age.
The majority of visitors access the site via mobile (65%).
“That’s why it is working. More and more people of all age brackets are online when they want to find out what’s happening locally, perhaps researching a town they might be planning to visit, an event or looking for things to do. And with beautiful imagery, it’s perfect for them to scroll at their leisure.”
Border Café features lifestyle, arts and culture, events, food and drink, business and community stories.
It’s win:win. As a journalist Kylie can help people tell their stories, these hopefully have benefits for their community, business or event and give us all more reason to be proud to live in this region and spread the word.
