This year, I’d like to wish you a greener new year. To share some hope for the future, I am pleased to say Fishbowl PR has partnered with Carbon Neutral’s Plant-a-Tree program for 2022. We’ve signed up to plant 250 trees this year.
Carbon Neutral is an Australian company planting trees to revegetate one of 36 globally significant biodiversity hotspots in southern Western Australia.
Biodiversity hotspot
Gavin Buckley, Head of Partnerships and Development said the biodiversity hotspot label recognises that plant and animal species in this area are found nowhere else in the world and are at extreme risk of destruction.
“The goal of the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor in southern Western Australia is to create a 200km green corridor in the biodiversity hotspot. This will run from inland, all the way to the coast, reconnecting remnant vegetation with 12 nature reserves across a 10,000km2 area,” Mr Buckley said.
“The project began in 2008, and since then more than 30 million mixed native species of trees and shrubs have been planted across almost 14,000 hectares.”
We all know forests play a crucial role in cleaning and cooling the air, with the benefits for our health and wellbeing as well as social, economic and environmental benefits more broadly.
The work Carbon Neutral is doing on the site in Western Australia makes it easy for small businesses like mine (as well as larger organisations) to reduce our carbon emissions, while helping with revegetation of Australian mixed native species and restoring habitat and ecosystems.
